How to Unlock Death in Deadly Days: Roadtrip

What two guides agree on

The Reaper is the penalty for staying too long. After about 12 minutes it shows on the radar. It does not flinch, according to deadlydayroadtrip.wiki (one source). The 1.0 patch notes say a killed Reaper drops one duct tape. Steam’s public achievement list has “Meet and greet” at 19.9% on 2 Nov 2026. I treat that name as official and the mapping to this unlock as a reading, not a label the studio printed.

Three unlock stories, still apart

KosGuides, written in Early Access on 24 Sep 2025, says you stay in one place for 12 minutes, see Death on the radar, and get the unlock by getting close. deadlydayroadtrip.wiki, updated for 1.0, says you let the Reaper kill you, and that killing it only pays the tape plus an achievement. deadlydaysroadtripgame.wiki says the studio never wrote the trigger down, and that community clips show kills in a desert run. I will not collapse those into one instruction.

A wait that does not waste the run

The practical overlap is simple. Pick an open map, fill the fuel can, and keep moving in a loop instead of extracting. When the radar mark appears, stop firing. Then choose which story you are testing: step in, or die to it. Guides also say turrets, bats, Tesla coils, and the teleporter can steal the moment, and that a flag sometimes appears only after you return to the base. One guide mentions a duct-tape cost at the base. The patch notes do not list a price, so I leave the number blank and only say: keep tape if you want that path available.

  • Do not extract when the tank is full.
  • Turn off auto-equip if summons are killing the hunter.
  • Co-op does not copy the unlock onto your profile.
  • Most guides say any map works. One wiki specifies a desert run. Both lines stay.

Questions

Can you kill Death?

Yes, players do. The 1.0 notes say the Reaper drops one duct tape. deadlydayroadtrip.wiki says that kill is not the character unlock.

Does co-op share the unlock?

One 1.0 guide says unlocks are per profile. A teammate having Death does not give it to you.

Is the timer always 12 minutes?

About 12 minutes is the overlap of two guides. The same guide says a stage modifier can bring the hunter earlier. There is no exact modifier table.
