Rules that sit under every layout
One main weapon, two to four boosters that actually sit in range, and a way out. Merge duplicates before you spend cells on new toys. In 1.0, critical chance past 100% steps up a tier, merged projectiles keep full damage, and ranged fire rate no longer depends on frame rate. Those three lines are from the patch notes. Everything below them is a community shape.
Five layouts from one 1.0 guide
deadlydayroadtrip.wiki describes these five. I am not promoting them to “meta”. The failure column is the part worth reading.
| Crit eye | Ripped-Out Eye plus a fast gun (Tommy, LMG, Uzi) | Open maps. The eye cuts range by 75% |
| Tesla chain | Tesla Coil, an even count of marked electric items, Cogwheel | Odd counts turn the bounce off. Single bosses |
| Burn zone | Flamethrower plus slow or root | Fast enemies leave the pool |
| Crossbow trigger | Crossbow, two or more on-hit triggers, Cogwheel | Slow setup. Bosses that move |
| Vampire melee | Bats, attack speed, lifesteal | The first days, and ranged packs |
Three archetypes, and who they suit
A second wiki groups the same ideas as bleed-melee Grinder, fast ranged crit, and an electric chain. The Grinder numbers on the store screenshot are 240 damage, 5.0 speed, 4.5 metres, and 75 bleed, plus 5% attack speed and crit per hit. That screenshot may predate a quiet 1.0 tweak, so I cite it as a picture, not as a live stat.
Carver wants triggers: turrets scale with how often you fire, so Cogwheel and a fast gun help. Bushy roots with trap seeds and opens a crit window. Penny’s balloon is either fully triggered or fully periodic; mixing the two is the mistake the guide names. Santa’s airstrike misses bosses that walk out of the circle. Astronaut stacks crit from armor, quoted as 3% per armor per rank in 1.0 (one wiki). Vampire should not spend cells on a ranged weapon.
Questions
What is a minigun fork build?
It is two items. Minigun is a workbench gun from the Early Access wiki. Fork adds one projectile to a marked ranged weapon. Together they are the search, not a single weapon name.
Do chicken or sheriff builds have 1.0 numbers?
No published 1.0 spreadsheet. Chicken is a challenge kit. Sheriff is a gunslinger with a mark. I will not invent damage for either.
Why did old crit builds break?
1.0 sends critical chance above 100% into another tier. Katana gained 25%. Super Knife fell from 280 to 224. A clip from 2025 is using the other rules.
